ABOUT US: 

We are small breeders in Southeast Wyoming of American Quarter Horses, Black Angus Cattle and Miniature American, Mini Australian Shepherds. (Mini Aussies BECAME Mini Americans when they went to AKC, they are the same breed).  We have been cattle and horse ranchers for over 40 years in Central and Southeast Wyoming. We keep our program small so we can give everyone the quality of time they deserve here at the ranch.  We strive to breed the FULL PACKAGE: health, beauty, brains, athleticism, health and great temperaments. Our puppies are raised at the SE Wyoming ranch about 1 hr north of Cheyenne.

We bought our first Mini Aussie in 2005.  We raised some Aussie X Border Collies in the past but preferred the registered Mini Aussie so we started breeding them instead.  We have shown with WOWMASC, ARBA, IABCA, ICE and ICKC before going AKC with Miniature American Shepherds (formerly Mini Aussie) in 2019.  We added performance to our training several years ago and enjoy it even more, and so do the dogs. We test for DM, MDR1, HC, PRA/PRCD, CDDY/IVVD, CEA, NAD, Non-HSF4, CERF and OFA hips, elbows and patellas. We never have more than 4 or 5 dogs at the house, normally less so they get the individual attention they deserve in our wonderful guardian homes.

We also raise cowhorse and reining bred horses, mostly, but they also do a super job in roping, team penning, barrel racing and even halter.  Versatility is important to us.  Horses have been around for many years in the history of 74 Ranch and previously the Herbst Ranch.  Tom's dad grew up raising horses, which in turn meant Tom grew up raising horses and he took over the program in his early 20's.  Now our son Garrett has taken ove a majority of the horse business.  Cattle have always been part of our ranching life but registered cattle began in the late 1990's.  Be sure to see our gorgeous horses at Herbst Homestead.com   In 2009 our daughter-in-law Kyla joined the family.  She added a few additional little ones to the family, Emmett, in 2017 and Zoey in 2020.  We raise Quarter Horses and Black Angus Cattn Torrington and on the mountains near Shoshoni),
